Waiting on Wednesday (12)

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
Release Date: June 14, 2012
Publisher: Dial Books
“One thing my mother never knew, and would disapprove of most of all, was that I watched the Garretts. All the time.”
The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, numerous, messy, affectionate. And every day from her balcony perch, seventeen-year-old Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them . . . until one summer evening, Jase Garrett climbs her terrace and changes everything. As the two fall fiercely in love, Jase's family makes Samantha one of their own. Then in an instant, the bottom drops out of her world and she is suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Which perfect family will save her? Or is it time she saved herself?

Why I can't wait: Huntley sounds like the my kind of author. I have hear NOTHING but great things about My Life Next Door. It sounds like a light-hearted romance with some humor probably mixed in.

Waiting on Wednesday (11)

Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne
Release Date: June 5, 2012
Publisher: Feiwel and Friends
Your mother hollers that you’re going to miss the bus. She can see it coming down the street. You don’t stop and hug her and tell her you love her. You don’t thank her for being a good, kind, patient mother. Of course not—you launch yourself down the stairs and make a run for the corner.
Only, if it’s the last time you’ll ever see your mother, you sort of start to wish you’d stopped and did those things. Maybe even missed the bus.
But the bus was barreling down our street, so I ran.
Fourteen kids. One superstore. A million things that go wrong.
In Emmy Laybourne’s action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world—as they know it—apart.
Why I cannot wait: Monument 14 does sound a bit depressing but it also sounds like it will have lots and lots and lots of action. It does seem like it could be emotional and kind of scary because you know they say in 2012 the world is gonna end so yea... I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of this.

Waiting on Wednesday (10)

Defiance by C.J. Redwine
Expected Publication: October 2, 2012
Publisher: Greenwillow
Within the walls of Baalboden, beneath the shadow of the city’s brutal leader, Rachel Adams has a secret. While other girls sew dresses, host dinner parties, and obey their male Protectors, Rachel knows how to survive in the wilderness and deftly wield a sword. When her father, Jared, fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector, her father’s apprentice, Logan—the same boy Rachel declared her love for two years ago, and the same boy who handed her heart right back to her. Left with nothing but fierce belief in her father’s survival, Rachel decides to escape and find him herself. But treason against the Commander carries a heavy price, and what awaits her in the Wasteland could destroy her.
At nineteen, Logan McEntire is many things. Orphan. Outcast. Inventor. As apprentice to the city’s top courier, Logan is focused on learning his trade so he can escape the tyranny of Baalboden. But his plan never included being responsible for his mentor’s impulsive daughter. Logan is determined to protect her, but when his escape plan goes wrong and Rachel pays the price, he realizes he has more at stake than disappointing Jared.
As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can’t be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making.
Why I cannot wait: Defiance just sounds like a very different but dark read. A plus is also that cover! I love the pop of color with Rachel's hair and the few green leaves floating around. It does look kinda like a dark read but something I could conquer in a day like it was a light-hearted fun read.

Now, just as they are moving yet again, Lemon discovers that she is pregnant from a reckless encounter—with a guy Stella had been flirting with.

On the verge of revisiting her mother’s mistakes, Lemon struggles to cope with the idea of herself as a young unmarried mother, as well as the fact that she’s never met her own father. Determined to have at least one big adventure before she has the baby, Lemon sets off on a cross-country road trip, intending not only to meet her father, but to figure out who she wants to be.

Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols
Expected Publication Date: July 10, 2012
Publisher: MTV Books
High school senior Leah Jones loves nothing more than flying. While she’s in the air, it’s easy to forget life with her absentee mother at the low-rent end of a South Carolina beach town. When her flight instructor, Mr. Hall, hires her to fly for his banner advertising business, she sees it as her ticket out of the trailer park. And when he dies suddenly, she’s afraid her flying career is gone forever.

But Mr. Hall’s teenage sons, golden boy Alec and adrenaline junkie Grayson, are determined to keep the banner planes flying. Though Leah has crushed on Grayson for years, she’s leery of getting involved in what now seems like a doomed business — until Grayson betrays her by digging up her most damning secret. Holding it over her head, he forces her to fly for secret reasons of his own, reasons involving Alec. Now Leah finds herself drawn into a battle between brothers — and the consequences could be deadly.
Why I can't wait: I have heard nothing but good things about Jennifer Echols and I have never read one of her novels. This sounds like a great one to start with and I cannot wait until it comes out so I can purchase it and just devour it.

What's Left of Me by Kat Zhang
Expected Publication Date: September 18, 2012
Publisher: Harper

Eva and Addie started out the same way as everyone else—two souls woven together in one body, taking turns controlling their movements as they learned how to walk, how to sing, how to dance. But as they grew, so did the worried whispers. Why aren’t they settling? Why isn’t one of them fading? The doctors ran tests, the neighbors shied away, and their parents begged for more time. Finally Addie was pronounced healthy and Eva was declared gone. Except, she wasn’t…
For the past three years, Eva has clung to the remnants of her life. Only Addie knows she’s still there, trapped inside their body. Then one day, they discover there may be a way for Eva to move again. The risks are unimaginable–hybrids are considered a threat to society, so if they are caught, Addie and Eva will be locked away with the others. And yet…for a chance to smile, to twirl, to speak, Eva will do anything.
Why I can't wait: I have heard alot of people saying that this was like Incarceron by Catherine Fisher. I started that book a while ago but couldn't get into it so I put it down and now I'm kind of nervous about this. This sounds really cool with the whole 2 souls deal and I love the simple yet really pretty cover.

Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock
Expected Publication Date: May 8, 2012
Publisher: HarperCollins
Mackenzie and Amy were best friends. Until Amy was brutally murdered.
Since then, Mac’s life has been turned upside down. She is being haunted by Amy in her dreams, and an extremist group called the Trackers has come to Mac’s hometown of Hemlock to hunt down Amy’s killer: A white werewolf.
Lupine syndrome—also known as the werewolf virus—is on the rise across the country. Many of the infected try to hide their symptoms, but bloodlust is not easy to control.
Wanting desperately to put an end to her nightmares, Mac decides to investigate Amy’s murder herself. She discovers secrets lurking in the shadows of Hemlock, secrets about Amy’s boyfriend, Jason, her good pal Kyle, and especially her late best friend. Mac is thrown into a maelstrom of violence and betrayal that puts her life at risk.
Kathleen Peacock’s thrilling novel is the first in the Hemlock trilogy, a spellbinding urban fantasy series filled with provocative questions about prejudice, trust, lies, and love.
Do I need to say anything else other than OMG!? This cover is beautiful and I have heard Kathleen's writing style is also beautiful. I will probably pick this up as soon as it comes out and devote my weekend to it. Even  if I don't like it, well I think I will haha.

Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die…or become one of the monsters.Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad. Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike. But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.
Why I can't wait: The covers cool... um.... NO? We aren't talking some hobo who just wrote down a bunch of words. We are talking Julie AWESOMENESS Kagawa! I loved Julie's Iron Fey series and I'm sorry but to me, it was better than The Hunger Games. This sounds like a very good change up in paranormal and I can't wait.

Waiting on Wednesday (3)

Expected Publication Date: June 1, 2012
Publisher: Scholastic
Number of Pages: 304

*Silent Scream!*Kass Kennedy is nobody's idol. She does forget the lyrics. She's not a gleek. The x factor? Not her! Read her lips: She has the right to remain silent.Just try telling that to her dad.Because he's totally lost it this time, demanding Kass audition for a TV talent show. Which would be slightly less than death-by-embarrassment if Kass could (duh!) actually sing. And if even the smallest part of her craved the spotlight. Stardom is her dad's dream, not hers. But he's so fragile, she's afraid he just might crack if she doesn't go through with his latest, craziest plan. Not helping: Her hopelessly MIA mom. The budding criminal mastermind also known as her kid brother. And amateur shrink Izzy and used-to-be-sweet Char, who've gone all frenemies over a boy in brown boots. (Don't ask.)
Why I can't wait:  This sounds like a really cute read! Plus it comes out in the summer so um.. can you say beach read? I am definitely going to pre-order this because this will definitely be on everyone's radar by the time it comes out.

Waiting on Wednesday (2)

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine!

Expected Publication: March 20, 2012
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Synopsis: Tessa's head over heels for Lucien, the son of a French diplomat. Sexy, artistic, and daring, he brings out a completely new side of her. So when Tessa's strict father forbids her to see Lucien, she's determined to keep their relationship a secret. But as Tessa gets caught up in Lucien, he becomes increasingly volatile.

Why I can't wait: This sounds kinda like an amzing retelling of Romeo and Juliet! Conway has an amazing writing style. I read one of her middle grade novels about two years ago when I was in fourth grade and I really enjoyed it so I can't wait to see what she can do in young adult. I also can't wait because well, this cover! Even though it has a really short synopsis it still sounds very interesting.

Waiting on Wednesday! (1)

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine!

Expected Publication: April 24, 2012
Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Synopsis: Two days before the start of her junior year, seventeen-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit by a pickup truck and killed—as in blinding light, scenes of her life flashing before her, and then nothing. Except the next thing she knows, she's opening her eyes to find Ben Michaels, a loner from her high school whom Janelle has never talked to, leaning over her. And even though it isn't possible, she knows—with every fiber of her being—that Ben has somehow brought her back to life.

But her revival, and Ben's possible role in it, is only the first of the puzzles that Janelle must solve. While snooping in her FBI agent father's files for clues about her accident, she uncovers a clock that seems to be counting down to something—but to what? And when someone close to Janelle is killed, she can no longer deny what's right in front of her: Everything that's happened—the accident, the murder, the countdown clock, Ben's sudden appearance in her life—points to the end of life as she knows it. And as the clock ticks down, she realizes that if she wants to put a stop to the end of the world, she's going to need to uncover Ben's secrets—and keep from falling in love with him in the process.

Why I am excited about it: That synopsis!! Omg! Ok I am probably going to fangirl over this so much after this comes out. I love the idea of it and it sounds like something very unique to the young adult genre instead of dystopian. This is also a debut so I am DEFINITELY adding this to my list and I hope you will too if you like it.
